Average costs in this area

Flights- Orlando is served by the Orlando International Airport (MCO), which is well-connected to major cities across the United States. For our trip, we flew from Louisville, Kentucky, on Southwest Airlines. At the time of writing, round-trip flights typically range from $600 to $700, making it a reasonable option for a getaway.

If you're traveling with a pet, make sure to check the airline’s pet policy in advance. Southwest Airlines is generally accommodating to service dogs and pets, but it’s essential to familiarize yourself with their requirements, such as documentation and paperwork. Arrive early to navigate check-in and security smoothly.

Transportation - Once you arrive in Orlando, consider renting a car for the most flexibility in exploring the area. We found that ride-sharing services can be expensive, especially for multiple trips to various attractions, so renting a car turned out to be the more cost-effective option. This way, we could easily navigate the city and visit all the attractions at our own pace. Plus, having a car allowed us to take breaks and ensure Boomer was comfortable during our adventures.

Accommodation - When considering accommodations in Orlando, FL, prices can vary significantly depending on the type of lodging and the season. On average, hotel rates hover around $250 per night, influenced by the amenities offered and proximity to popular attractions. For those seeking a more luxurious experience, upscale resorts can charge upwards of $300 per night. To secure the best rates, it's essential to book in advance, especially during the busy tourist season when availability can be limited.

When planning your trip to Orlando, establishing a budget is crucial for ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. A recommended daily budget includes accommodation costs that typically range from $250 to $300 per night, depending on your choice of lodging. For meals, expect to spend approximately $50 to $100 per person, with breakfast averaging $10 to $20, lunch between $15 and $30, and dinner ranging from $25 to $50 at various dining establishments. Transportation costs may add an additional $30 to $60, especially if you decide to rent a car, which would include expenses for gas and parking, or if you prefer ride-sharing services. It’s also important to budget for attraction tickets, as theme park entry prices can vary significantly depending on the parks you plan to visit. Lastly, allocate around $20 to $50 for miscellaneous expenses, such as souvenirs and snacks. In total, a suggested daily budget would be approximately $370 to $610 per person, excluding theme park tickets, providing a balanced approach to enjoying everything Orlando has to offer.

TIps for first visit

1. Choose Pet-Friendly Accommodations – Before booking, confirm that your lodging is pet-friendly. Look for accommodations that offer amenities for pets, such as dog beds, treats, and outdoor spaces.

2. Explore Pet-Friendly Activities – Research dog-friendly hiking trails and parks in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many trails allow pets on leashes, providing a great opportunity for outdoor adventures.

3. Be Mindful of Weather – Check the weather forecast and prepare your pet accordingly. Bring a sweater for cooler days or sunscreen for hot days to protect their skin.

4. Plan for Dining – Look for restaurants with outdoor seating that welcome pets. Some establishments may even offer special treats for your furry friend.
